Dribbling is the fundamental of the basketball. It is almost impossible to play basketball without dribbling. Every basketball player should know how to dribble properly. Dribbling is important as it helps you move the ball, get past defenders, create open shots and spaces, set up plays for your teammates etc. Here are some dribbling moves to improve your dtibbling skills as a beginner.
Crossover is the most basic dribbling skill that you can use. It is when a player quickly switches the ball from one hand to other. Crossovers are simple but effective. It helps you to break down the pressure and drive to the basket and helps you create a space to shoot a jumpshot.
Between the legs move is a little more advanced as you have to cross the ball from one hand to another but between the legs. Between the leg move is useful since it helps you protect the ball better from the defender since your body is acting like a shield. It also helps you to smoothly change direction from one side to another.
Behind the back move is also a move that is a little advanced. In my opinion, behind the back is more difficult than between the legs and a crossover. Behind the back is basically switching the ball from one hand to another but you are doing it behind your back. Like crossovers excpet the ball goes behind your back instead of going in front of you. Even though behind the back is a little harder to learn it is definetly a very good move since it protects the ball better than between the leg because this time your whole body is acting like a shield compared to behind the back where some of them acted like a shield. Changing direction is smoother in behind the back as well because you can change the direction faster.
In my opinion in and out is a very good dribbling move because it is easy to learn and effective. In and out is when you fake a crossover. You pretend to go to switch hands and go to different direction but then you keep moving on the same direction where you first started. This makes the defender shift to the other direction making it easier to get past them. It also helps you change speed easily. If you were going with a slow speed, you can use in and out to fake the opponent to different direction and speed up.
